Pamporovo claims to be the sunniest mountain resort in Europe (270 sunny days per year on average), though with wonderful snow through the whole season. Pamporovo is located at an altitude of 1650 m. above the sea level at the foot of Snejanka peak (1926 m). The ski runs in Pamporovo come in all difficulty levels which means it is the best family ski resort. They are located between 1926 and 1450 m above the sea level on the northern, eastern and western slopes of The Snejanka peak. Currently, there are 29 km of runs for alpine disciplines of different difficulty available to the skiers - 30 km of tracks for long run, nine ski cabinets and ski equipment by the world-known companies. There is an efficient lift system.
New ski runs and lifts are being developed presently, the one in Stoikite being one of the last completed for the ski season 2008 - 2009. is six-seat chairlift made by famous French company with capacity of 2 400 people per hour -116 chairs of 6 seats each, with length of 2992 meters and is one of the most modern ski facilities in Europe. This lift was built next to the complex and allows direct access to the main ski slope of Pamporovo - Snezhanka. This facility will influence greatly the prices in the area.
A major road construction is underway from Smolyan to nearby Greece (just 30 km), which is expected to boost tourist inflow from Greece. The road is expected to be completed by the end of 2009.
Travelling to Pamporovo is easy in the winter using the charter flights to the city of Plovdiv, which is as mentioned above just 80km away. Cheap charter flights are arranged in the ski season by many British and international travel agents, including Balkan Holidays and First Choice.
